Eva Cassidy - Time After Time
This is Eva Cassidy at Blues Alley performing Cyndi Lauper's
song with a unique translation. Cassidy was an American
vocalist with a talent for reinterpretations of jazz, blues,
folk, gospel and pop classics. Cassidy remained virtually
unknown outside of her native Washington, DC, when she died of
melanoma in 1996 at the age of 33.
But her recordings, and her tragic story, led to a wave of
Eva-mania in the late 1990s, although it didn't last. Few people
remember her now -- except singers, who treasure the subtlety of
her arrangements and her pristine voice.
David Archuleta
recently performed Eva Cassidy's version of John Lennon's song,
Imagine, in season 7 of American Idol to rave reviews by all
three panel judges although Cassidy's arrangement was not
credited in the show.
